You would never pass up the chance to look great in minutes, would you? Really, don't be alarmed. What you need are hair extensions, the latest accessories to emerge from the hair fashion landscape.

These extensions exist in varying shades, textures and sources. There are also various ways of attaching the extensions to your own hair. You can weave, braid, fuse, bond or clip on the extensions.

Clip-on or clip-in. These are hair extensions with micro clips at one end that allow you to clip on the accessory to your hair. You can save some cash if you clip on the accessories by yourself. The task does not require expert handling by a professional hairdresser.

Braiding. Some hair extensions aren't equipped with micro clips and need to be braided along with your own hair, hence the name "braiding". Note that there are several ways you can braid your hair. A skilled hairdresser should be able to execute a variety of styles.

Bonding. Other hair extension techniques require the application of bonding glue at one end of the extensions so that the glued tip will stick securely on your hair root. The process is referred to as bonding. Bonding is as easy as sticking on a false eyelash on your eye lid. Detaching the hair extensions is easy, but you need to use a special glue remover designed for this purpose.

Weaving is the best known method of hair extension attachment. You must utilize your natural hair to create tracks where you will have someone weave or sew the hair extensions onto. For satisfactory results, it is essential that you make the tracks as close to your scalp as possible. Because the hair extensions conceal your own hair, experts recommend this method if you have severely damaged tresses.

Fusion. Some other hair extensions can be attached following the "hot glue gun" method. The extensions are fastened to your hair using a hot glue gun. The hot glue is applied to the extensions then attached to the root of your hair. This method is labor-intensive and can take several hours of your time. Recently there's been a new method called "Cold fusion". This method uses a keratin-based polymer to attach the extensions to the root of your hair. This method is more gentle on your hair and the use of a hot glue gun is no longer required.

Pre-tipped hair extensions are marketed with a small amount of glue already attached to one end of the extensions. You then attach the extensions with the help of a special applicator.

Ring X. If you're looking for a fairly modern technique, there's Ring X. Small metallic rings have been placed at one end of the hair extensions. To fasten the rings to your hair, you need to use of a special tool.

Keep in mind that the clip-on technique is something that you can do by yourself without risking any damage done to your hair or your hair extensions. Clip-on extensions are also easier to care for. For the rest of the methods though, it's best that you leave the job to a professional hairdresser.

By: Jacqueline Jade

About the Author:

Oh, no don't get me wrong I love my natural hair because of the fact that it's curly. It's naturally long as well. the only way it got long was with me wearing cornrow/weave. i just wanted a really good weave this time so I can do things to it.

By: infallible_wench

About the Author:

Hair weaving is a popular hair style among the African American community because, done correctly, it gives the hair a naturally exotic look and it can be relatively low maintenance. There are two common methods of placing hair. One is bonding the weave wafts to the natural hair using a bonding agent such as hair glue. The other is sewing the weave into the head using a needle and thread. While popular, a good hair weave can be very expensive to get done professionally, costing hundreds and sometimes even thousands of dollars. This prompts many women to learn how to weave hair so that they can do their own hair for a cheaper cost. While this may be a smart thing to do from a financial standpoint, there are many factors to consider.

One of the first decisions to make is whether you want to use synthetic hair or human hair. Synthetic hair is cheaper, but it tends to tangle and be harder to manage. Attempting to style synthetic hair can be a challenge due to the fact that heating it with curling irons and straightening combs is generally not recommended and will shorten the amount of time the weave can be successfully worn. Synthetic hair also tends to be more prone to sun damage. When synthetic hair is shaped and styled, do not mess with for best long term results.

Human hair is better than synthetic, but it is also more expensive. Most human hair is obtained from the Asian countries of China, India, and Korea. Lower quality human hair is processed and may even be mixed with animal and synthetic hair to make it less expensive. Processed human hair is usually collected from the barber floors or Indian temple floors and treated with acid and other chemicals which partially or completely destroy the cuticle of the hair. The cuticle is the outermost layer of the hair shaft. The cuticle is what adds strength to a hair follicle. It also gives hair its shine and adds to the attractiveness of a person's natural hair. The very best hair has the cuticle intact and facing in the same direction. This is called virgin cuticle hair and is expensive. Typically, Remy hair is of this quality of human hair. The Remy designation is becoming somewhat watered down now and tends to include processed hair as well. Just remember that typically Remy hair is the best hair to weave with.

Once you decide what type of hair you will use you need to determine if you will use glue or the sew-in method. Now, to glue weave wafts in is fairly easy and if done correctly can provide a nice result. However, I have seen many homemade weave jobs using glue that are poorly done where the actual track is visible and easily noticeable. This is not attractive. The goal of a good weave is for it not to look like a weave. A weave bonded by glue is best achieved by layering the waft under the natural hair. Horizontal sections should be made around the head and the track should be bonded to the scalp carefully. At no point should there be a track visible to the casual observer looking down at your head.

Sewing the waft in is the preferred method for a quality result. First, the natural hair should be cornrowed around your entire head in a circular pattern by beginning on the outer edge and ending in the center. It is essential to leave at least a 1/2 inch of hair that will serve to frame your face and blend in with the extension once the weave is done. Use a "C" shaped needle to stitch the extension hair at the front and work your way around your head 360 degrees.

Both methods of weaving are challenging when doing it yourself at home and learning how to weave hair can be both fun and frustrating. While some may argue that the money saved is worth the time and effort spent, many other women may become exasperated at the thought of even attempting to complete this task on their own. If you do decide to undertake this challenge be sure to do your research about the different types of hair and methods to complete this task to ensure you really know how to weave hair and are up to the challenge.

By: Staffod Conley

About the Author:

Lace wigs versus hair weaving is the ultimate battle that was bound to happen. For years, weaving techniques have been the preferred choice for women who wanted to change their look without drastically changing their own hair. Now, many people have migrated to using hair wigs for their realistic look and seamless fit. For those of you who are still choosing sides, the differences are stark and listed below.

Realistic Look

Through various weaving techniques, many styles have a natural appearance. If your natural hair crown is exposed, this is as real as it gets. Another method includes the net or cap weaves. This technique allows for your braided hair under the stocking cap or net to grow without creating a cone head appearance. While all of these methods are advancements from traditional weaving techniques, lace wigs have went a step further.

Lace wigs are similar in the sense that they are made to attain a natural looking hairline and part. With hair wigs, the base is typically French lace or Swiss lace so that it can be applied directly to the skin. To achieve a natural part, none of your natural hair needs to be out as the lace wig acts as your hair and your scalp in one unit.

Healthy Hair & Growth

An added bonus of a hair weave can be potential hair growth. Many women get weaves to try different styles but they also do this so they cannot damage their own hair. The problem with this is that the weave itself can cause some issues. Tight braids and the weaving string that is laced through the braids can cause significant damage if not properly cared for. For women who were tired of taking out their weave and seeing damaged hair, hair systems were the answer.

Lace wigs are almost certain to aid in hair growth and prevent damaged hair. You have the option of braiding the natural hair or simply wearing it unbraided under a stocking cap. This is an option that cannot be had with a hair weave. Since the hair wig itself acts as the natural hairline and scalp, none of your own hair needs to be out so it acts as a protective style. This means that in harsh weather conditions, your hair will be protected from damage.

Cost Effectiveness

As the price of lace wigs and weaves vary greatly, the cost effectiveness is in the eye of the beholder. Some women feel as though their at home full weave is well worth the lower cost while others will only go to the top salon for installation. A simple way to compare is to look at the cost of maintenance overtime.

A hair weave will require the purchase of hair. Human hair at longer lengths is often more expensive just like with lace wigs. Your hair must then be washed, deep conditioned and braided. The process is the same with a hair wig with the exception of braided hair which is completely optional.

Depending if this is an at home style, the installation for a weave can cost anywhere from $60 to $300 and up. For lace wigs, this is almost identical. While hair systems are rather expensive on the front end, they can last a lifetime. A hair weave can usually be worn for no more than 2 months.

After the weave is taken out, the whole process of purchasing hair, braiding, and installation must be repeated at the same costs. For lace wigs, you can use the same hair wig over again after washing. When your hair wig is lacking, you can simply have it repaired versus buying a brand new one. The overall cost and ease of a lace wig seems very worth the front end cost as it is a long term investment in your beauty.

Some women love their weaves but for those who decide to switch over to lace wigs, very few are disappointed and seldom return to the unnatural appearance, costly process, and potential hair damage that a weave causes.

By: Abbi Akinsanya

About the Author:

Hair weaves can be remarkable accessories and one of the best parts is that the wearer just needs to tie their real hair back and then put on whichever weave they want and choose to get the hairstyle that they wish to have. It is popular because it is simple and quick to put on. In addition it takes no more than a few minutes and permits a person to get ready and look fabulous and great in the shortest amount of time possible. It is every woman's dream to have hairstyle that looks great and easy to achieve. However not many of us know how to take care of a hair weave. Let's go through it below.

How to Take Care of a Hair Weave

Anyone who does own a hair weave however needs to be aware of how to take care of a weave so that it will last them as long as it is possible. Especially if the hair weave that they own was expensive, of course it is going to be important to learn how to take care of a hair weave. It not only saves their money but also they still can use their favorite one for a long time, bear in mind it might not be possible to buy the same type again.

For the weaves that are put permanently into the hair, it is vital that the person to carry on and live as though the weave is just an extension of their actual hair. Stop holding it as if it's going to fall off.

The weave needs to receive just as much care and attention as the real hair, if not more. When it is done by a professional, the average hair weave will last about two months but can keep for a lot longer if it is being well taken care of.

If you want to learn how to take care of a hair weave one of the most important things a wearer needs to make sure of is that gentle products are used to clean the hair so that the weave will not be stripped. Please remember that it is also vital to use the right conditioner, one that is going to moisturize but without leaving the hair too oily.

When blow drying your hair be careful because it will dry out the weave, as well as the natural hair. If the extensions are burnt from receiving too much heat they will stay this way and there will really be no way to fix it besides removing the whole weave. This is not a good ideal idea not only because of the cost and effort of applying a weave but also because this is often pain involved and so this is not something that anyone is going to want to do on a regular basis.

Also on how to take care of a hair weave one needs to remember not to over process the hair, it doesn't matter if it curling, dying, or straightening it. All of them are damaging to real hair and even more so on a weave.

By: Fatima Edris

About the Author:
