The styles and numbers of African American hairstyles are limitless. There is short hair, long hair, curly hair, wavy hair, braided hair and the styles go on and on. But why are there so many?

The African American hairstyles are limitless. Majority of African Americans do not show their real hair. Women wear wigs and hair pieces. You seldom will see an African American sporting their actually hair. Their hair is so course that they only get it washed once a week and sometimes if it is an important occasion.

Braids and weaves are the most popular among the African American culture. Weaving is process where other hair that matches the person's actual hair color is weaved or glued to their real hair. They can make their normal hair style go from 2 inches up to 10 inches in a matter of hours. Women, men and children will sit for hours just to get their hair done. It has been known that even the youngest of children a few months old will go through this process.

Braids are another popular style which can take multiple hours to do. Depending on the length of the hair already it can take up to 12 hours just to get all the braids done. Braiding is a style which any age or sex can get done. It uses the real hair or they glue other braids in with their real hair to make a more dramatic effect.

African American's have so many hairstyles that it is hard to list them all. African Americans hair gets a whole lot greasier and oilier than most white or Caucasian American's. They use cocoa butter and products that contain heave oils to make their hair appear greasy. They believe that washing their hair often causes it to break and get dry which makes it fall out.

The African American hairstyles are endless but the African Americans are famous for their hairstyles it's what makes them unique.

By: Arjuna Bravia

About the Author:

Weaves require some care and maintenance in order to get the best longevity from them. Some women will not take the extra precautions into caring for their weaves such as wrapping their hair at night and not washing and caring for them properly. When you own a curly haired weave you have even more care required for it.

Here are 5 quick tips to help you care for your curly weave.

1.) Do not brush or comb your curly weave when it is dry. Many people do not realize the damage this can do to curly hair. Curly hair is already more susceptible to breaking off and when you attempt to comb through the curls when its dry you are just begging to break off some hair ends by tugging on knots and tangles. Only comb using a wide tooth comb when it is wet.

2.) Your weave needs deep conditioning. Conditioner must be used on your weave if its human hair in order to keep the hair moisturized. Unlike your real hair, weaves and hair extensions are unable to lock in natural moisture and oils produced from the scalp. So in order to keep your weave its best, you should opt for a cold wash which uses cold water and only conditioner. No shampoo.

3.) Use a curl activator, curl cream or serum. These products are formulated especially for curly textures to help smooth hair and leave gorgeous, silky locks.

4.) Do not blow try your curly weave. Heat and air combined will cause the hair to frizz out. Instead; towel dry your hair and let the weave hair dry naturally.

5.) Once the hair is dry do not be tempted to run your hands through the hair or handle it too much. Touching the hair often will remove the moisture from the hair and cause your hair to frizz out.

By: Marissa Donato

About the Author:
